Following Our Dream
We are Andrew and Auriol Daley, the owners of Bush Baby Glen.
Many years ago, we were discussing our dream future. We simultaneously said we had always wanted to own and run a guest lodge in the Sabie River Valley in Mpumalanga.
The next day we made our way over Long Tom Pass looking for a place that was so special it would just call out to us when we saw it.
After seeing many unsuitable properties, the agent said she had just one more spot to show us. As we got out the car we looked at each other and said, “be careful of what you wish for!”
Not only did we find the perfect place, we bought it and spent the next years winding up our professional lives in Johannesburg. At the time it was called The Old Homestead and many locals still call it that.
In June of 2010 we moved to our spot on the Sabana river, and renovated and modeled it into what was to become Nwanakalile Lodge. This is the home of the Thick-tailed Bushbaby or Greater Galago and Nwanakalile is the local name for these lovely but shy creatures. Early mornings echo with their cries as they climb back into the canopy to rest up for the day.
We made the decision to rename and brand our establishment to give it a fresh new feeling and to make it easier to remember (and say). And so Bush Baby Glen became the new brand for our self-catering apartments. Yes we are still sticking with the Bushbabies. And after all - aren't you a "Bush Baby" too? We are.
We live here, following our passion which is the bush, birding and offering our guests spacious apartments set in a lovely bush environment.
It was worth every penny: quiet, clean, well equiped kitchen, 11 km to shops / fuel station and 20 min to the Kruger - Phabeni gate. One day we were too tired to drive around so spent day relaxing and soaking by the river flowing via the lodge.
Andrew, Auriol and their pets were all very friendly and warm.
I loved being there with my boys after a hectic time ... I enjoyed the tranquility and the peace that the environment brought to us. We could relax and all the resources are clean. The staff is friendly. Thanks to the staff in particular for giving spare time to my little boy.
We were a group of 4 who planned to stay for 4 nights but because we enjoyed our stay so much, we didn't want to leave. We ended up staying for 8 nights. Andrew and Auriol, the owners, are very welcoming and immediately we felt at home. The place is very close to Kruger National Park, nestled on a river bank, surrounded by lush vegetation and has a lot of wildlife. Centrally located, the lodge has many attractions nearby, and is bargain. What more could you ask for?
